Symptoms of a Malfunctioning Transmission
Difficulty Changing Gears
If you are having trouble changing gears, you may have a malfunctioning shift motor. In modern diesel trucks with automatic transmissions, you’re no longer directly connected to your shift mechanisms. Instead, your shifter sends a signal to what’s called your shift motor. This shift motor makes the change for you. Although this component doesn’t usually need maintenance, it can, at times, require repair. Whether it be due to age and use or contamination, your shift motor’s lubrication might break down and need to be reapplied.
Missing Gears
When you shift into a gear, does it feel like you’re back in neutral? If so, you may have lost one of your gears. In order for your gears to connect, they have teeth that lock together. If your transmission isn’t lubricated properly, these teeth may wear down and fail to connect, hence the neutral-like reaction. Fortunately for anyone dealing with this issue, we here at Neudorf Enterprises offer a wide array of transmission repair and rebuild services.
